It was the first Saturday in May, weather finally was outstanding in Virginia; rains had finally let up, not ended just tapered off. Our Derby Fest for 2015 was held in Occoquan, Virginia along the famed waterway with the same name. By the afternoon a dozen or so wounded warrior gathered with PEP volunteers to celebrate Kentucky’s pride in horses and the running of the 141st race.
Again BBQ chicken cooked by a veteran crew and one WW highlighted the “summertime meal”. All the “fixins” made the BBQ truly a lasting memory for all. Music was performed by Kat and her band. Great sounds from the instruments and Kat belted out some great tunes. More than 230 people heard the music, ate the food, and enjoyed the company of the WW. Our next event will be the “Boots on the Barge” concerts in mid-September.
